In The Waning Sex (1926), Thalberg cast Norma Shearer and Conrad Nagel (in their fifth film together) as competing lawyers. ‘This was my first opportunity’ Shearer recalled, ‘to play the slick career girl who turns out to be a little too smart for her own good.  When she wins a case, she almost loses her husband.’
